We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Civil Engineer (QA / QC)

Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Contract

Job Summary

  • The QA/QC Engineer will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Quality Assurance and Quality Control systems across all phases of the expressway construction project.
  • The successful candidate will ensure that materials, workmanship, testing, inspections, and completed works meet project specifications, applicable standards, and client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare periodic QA/QC reports for project management.
  • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where necessary and monitor corrective and preventive actions until closure.
  • Coordinate laboratory and field testing of construction materials including soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel, and other materials.
  • Liaise with consultants, contractors, laboratories, and regulatory authorities on quality-related matters.
  • Prepare, monitor, and maintain quality documentation, inspection records, material approvals, test reports, and quality logs.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the project's Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures.
  • Participate in project quality audits and site inspections.
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications, approved drawings, method statements, and relevant engineering standards.
  • Review inspection and test plans (ITPs), quality procedures, and method statements submitted by contractors and subcontractors.
  • Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with approved quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project quality performance.
  • Conduct inspections of construction works including earthworks, pavement, bridges, drainage systems, concrete works, asphalt works, and ancillary infrastructure.
  • Monitor calibration of testing and measuring equipment.
  • Verify that approved materials and construction methods are used throughout the project.

Qualifications

  • Professional registration with COREN is an added advantage.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Certification in Quality Management (ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor) will be an added advantage.
  • Membership of NSE or other relevant professional bodies is desirable.

Experience

  • Experience working on Federal Government or concession infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in Quality Assurance and Quality Control within road, highway, bridge, or large civil infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of FIDIC contracts and engineering quality standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in highway construction, pavement works, concrete works, asphalt production, and materials testing.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent understanding of road construction specifications and testing standards.
  • Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, BS, and Nigerian engineering standards.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and engineering documentation software.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Excellent report writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC systems and quality management principles.
  • High level of integrity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
